Instructions
  1. In a Pressure Cooker add 1 cup of Toor dal, Small Onions , Garlic , Green Chillies, 2 cups water and pressure cook for 3 Whistles.
  2. Heat a pan, Add Oil and then add in Mustard seeds, Cumin Seeds, Urad dal and chana dal and when it splutters and Garlic pods and small Onion and saute till it becomes brown and then add 1 slit curry leaves, dry chillies , asafoetida powder and saute for 1 Minute.
  3. Then add in the cubed tomatoes and required salt and saute till tomatoes becomes mushy.
  4. Add in the cleaned Fenugreek leaves and saute for 5 Minutes. Then add in the cooked toordal and cook again for 5 Minutes.
  5. When the Dal curry starts bubbling switch off the stove and Garnish with curry leaves.
  6. Tasty Fenugreek Sambar is Ready to be served with rice.
Recipe Notes


  • Do not overcook the keerai as it looses its flavour and vitamins.
  • If you wish you can also add little tamarind juice for extra flavour.
  • You can try the same method with other keerai also.
