Onion chutney is very simple spicy and flavorful recipe and great accompaniment with Dosa,Idli,Upma ,Vada and also Appams. It is South Indian recipe, you love this chutney even as a spread for sandwich. Though I have used big onions, you can use pearl onions also to prepare this chutney, Bachelors can easily prepare this Chutney Recipe

Instructions
  1. Heat oil in a pan,lower flame add chana dal and urad dal and saute till it becomes light brown and add red chillies.
  2. Add 1 Cup of chopped onions and saute till it changes colour and add a tamarind piece to it and switch off the flame.
  3. Transfer the content to the mixer after when it cools down.
  4. Add required salt and grind to a smooth paste.
  5. Heat oil in the same pan, add mustard seeds and when it splutters add urad dal and chana dal.
  6. When it changes to brown add asafoetida and switch off the flame.
  7. Add curry leaves and pour it over blended chutney.
  8. Tasty Onion chutney is ready. Serve with Idli or dosa.
Recipe Notes

Although we can make with big onions,small onions tastes better.

You can also add two cloves of garlic while sauting onions.
