Lima Beans/Field Beans Recipe (Mochai Kottai Kuzhambu) is a very Healthy tasty curry made with field beans, we also call it kara kuzhambu. It is a typical south Indian dish which pairs well with steamed rice and any mild stir fry. You can use fresh beans or try this recipe with other bean too…like karamani, soya bean,double beans or red beans or butter beans.
etc too, you can get these beans from all departmental stores so stock it up and use them when you want.

Instructions
  1. Heat a tsp of oil and saute cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds, Garlic, Onion and Tomato until light golden brown. Lower the heat and add turmeric powder,Chilli Powder, Coriander Powder and Puli kulambu powder and saute for 2 Minutes.
  2. After When it cools down transfer to a mixer jar and grind to a smooth paste.
  3. Heat oil, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add urad dal, Chana dal and cumin seeds When it becomes slightly brown add curry leaves and onion chopped.Saute until onions turns pink.
  4. Add the grinded paste and saute for 5 minutes. Add salt, potato chopped and avara kottai.Let it cook for 15 MInutes.
  5. Add the tamarind juice and let it boil for 10 minutes.
  6. Finally add Grinded Coconut paste to gravy.
  7. Garnish with coriander Leaves and serve hot with rice,dosa or idli.
Recipe Notes

If using dried beans,soak it for 8 hours or overnight and pressure cook the beans.

You can also add other veggies like drumstick, brinjal or bellpepper.

Boiling for more time gives a fantastic taste to the kulumbu.

I have used fresh beans so it is enough to cook for 20 Minutes.

Adding puli kulumbu powder is optional.
