Lady’s finger Recipe is cooked quickly and also tastes very delicious, Lady’s finger also known as okra or Gumbo is very common in Indian cooking. Okra is known as Vendakkai in Tamil and Bhindi in Hindi.
Lady’s finger is high fiber vegetable is known for its high soluble and insoluble fiber content. - 150 grms Ladies Finger
- 4 spoon Sesame Oil
- 1 No Big Onion
- 10 Nos Shallots/Small Onion
- 10 Cloves garlic
- 1 tspn Mustard Seeds / Kadugu
- 1 1/2 tspn Cumin Seeds/Jeera
- 1/2 tspn Turmeric Powder
- 1/2 tspn Fenugreek seeds
- 2 tspn Chili Powder
- 1 tspn Coriander powder
- 1 tspn Puli Kulumbu Powder
- 1/2 Cup Grated Coconut
- 1 No Big Size Tomato
- Few Curry & Coriander Leaves
- Gooseberry Size Tamarind
- Salt to taste

- Heat a tsp of oil and saute Garlic, Onion and Tomato until light golden brown.
- Add grated Coconut and curry leaves and saute for 5 Minutes.
- Lower the heat and add turmeric powder,Chilli Powder, Coriander Powder and Puli kulambu powder and saute for 2 Minutes.
- After When it cools down transfer to a mixer jar and grind to a smooth paste.
- Heat oil, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add fenugreek seeds and cumin seeds When it becomes slightly brown add Ladies finger and saute till it starts turning brown here and there and the viscous nature of it goes away.
- Add onion chopped and Saute until onions turns pink.
- Add the grinded paste and salt and saute till oil oozes out.
- Add the tamarind juice and let it boil for 10 minutes.
- Finally garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or dosa.
Sauting ladies finger in oil is important to remove its gluey nature.
If you like that gluey nature in ladies finger you can skip sauting and add onion immediately.
Adding puli kulumbu powder is optional.
