Tasty Drumstick Sambar is a very popular South Indian dish usually served with rice, idli, dosa, vada, upma and ven pongal. In many homes sambar is always made with drumstick, Drumstick is a very healthy and flavorful vegetable, often recommended in diet to increase iron.

Instructions
  1. Add 1 cup of Tur dal,1 cup of small onions and 6 garlic pods in a pressure cooker.
  2. Also add 2 tomatoes,Drum sticks and Cumin seeds(Jeeragam) to it.
  3. Add 1/2 spoon turmeric powder,1 spoon chilli powder and 2 1/2 spoons of sambar powder.
  4. Add 3 cups of water to it and pressure cook for 1 whistle and immediately release the pressure with a ladle.
  5. Using a ladle take out all the drumsticks from the dal generously.
  6. Again pressure cook the dal for 3 whistles. Now open the lid after when the pressure settle down. The dal should be soft and mushy.Using a smasher(mathukuchi),Smash the dal well.
  7. Heat 3 tbsps of oil, add cumin seeds,Urad dal and bengal gram and mustard seeds.
  8. When it splutters,add curry leaves and smashed garlic and onion and saute till it becomes brown.Then add the cooked dal to it and cook for 2 minutes.
  9. Add salt and cooked drumstick to it and let it boil for 2 minutes. Then add the tamarind pulp extracted from a gooseberry size tamarind.
  10. Finally add coriander and curry leaves.
  11. Tasty sambar is ready to be served with Rice ,Idli or Dosa
Recipe Notes

Soak tamarind when you start making sambar. If you forget,soak it in hot water as it helps to get pulp soon.
